PLAYER DIARIES
Player Diary - Sam Whitelock
07 September 2011

Dear Diary

Well the Rugby World Cup 2011 is here in New Zealand. It’s been a long week but the opening game against Tonga at Eden Park is creeping closer. I have been selected on the bench to cover lock and blindside flanker. So training has been a real challenge this week and one that I have enjoyed. It’s interesting covering another position; it can only further my understanding of the game. I did play number six at school but it’s fantastic to be working alongside players who know the position inside out. It’s like they know what I’m thinking even before I ask the question. Crazy.

‘Time’s wing-ed chariot’ and ‘tempus fugit’ and all that, but it does seem only a moment ago that I was sitting in the broiling sun at the Velodrome at Marseille and watched, horrified, as Stirling Mortlock missed a penalty into a swirling wind near full-time that would have snatched a victory in the 2007 Rugby World Cup quarter-final for the Wallabies against England.

A good kiwi bloke's tale
Where were you?

Come on be honest.

Where were you when the All Blacks were welcomed to the Rugby World Cup? I tell you where you weren’t, you were not at THE welcome.
